The State Museum of Art of Republic of Karakalpakstan named after I.Savitsky is currently located in the first building of museum complex consisting of three buildings.
The first building of museum complex was opened by the First President of Uzbekistan I. Karimov in 2003. The exposition area of the first block is 2478 square meter. The exhibition hall of the block represents about 2500 items, from them more than 400 artworks are of Central Asian and Russian avant-garde painters including Karakalpak painters’ works. Besides the artworks, this building exhibition hall displays archaeological artefacts and unique exhibits of folk applied arts.
Taking into consideration of the big role of the museum in development of cultural and economic potential of the country, in 2012 the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted a decree “About beginning of 2nd stage construction of the complex of the State Museum of Art of Republic of Karakalpakstan named after I.Savitsky ”. On the 10th of March, 2013 the construction of new two blocks started. One of the new buildings is designated as an exhibition block and exposition area of it is 2478 square meter. It will offer to the visitors’ attention about 400 artworks of Karakalpak, Central Asian and Russian painters. The other block serves as a storage, where the big part of collection will be kept. Now, the construction of the two blocks has been completed. It is expected that the opening of the new buildings will happen so soon.
