The museum collection is represented in 3 sections – the art of Ancient Khorezm, Karakalpak folk art and fine arts

The Nukus Museum of Art is a treasure that introduces cultural period beginning from III century B.C. (items of material and artistic values of  Ancient and Medieval Khorezm – archaeological findings of Toprak-kala, Tok-kala, Mizdakhan and etc.)

The folk applied art (cultural gene pool of Karakalpak people-) small semi-nomadic ethnic group in the past, inhabiting in north-western part of Uzbekistan and they have the most ancient history, original culture) is represented by unique exhibits of jewellery, textile.

The fine arts section of the museum is the biggest art discovery.  It puts together national school of  Karakalpakstan art, the artworks by founders of Uzbekistan art- multinational group of artists who based and created in Central Asia in the beginning of XX century. (A. Volkov, U. Tansykbaev, M.Kurzin, N. Kashina, N. Karakhan, E. Korovay and so on).
In experts’ opinion, the Nukus collection of Russian avant-garde by its significance and scale is second after the world – famous collection of the Russian Museum in Saint-Petersburg. It includes not only world known painters ( L. Popova, D. Burlyuk, A. Shevchenko, R. Falk, V. Pestel, M. Le-Dantyu and etc.), but forgotten names and unknown artists (A. Osmerkin, M. Sokolov, P.Sokolov, N. Borovaya, N. Tarasov and so on).
